Calling the regulator to close a historic gap in corporate governance code

Together with 33 other in-house lawyers and interested parties, we have submitted a call to the UK corporate governance regulator - the Financial Reporting Council - to address a historic omission in the governance codes that apply to big businesses in the UK. That omission is the failure to formalise in regulation the fundamental role of General Counsel and in-house legal departments in decision making, risk management and corporate culture.

The submission was put together by a working group I led, within a larger group, where we earlier called upon the UK legal services regulator to correct errors in its thematic risk review of in-house lawyers and address systemic issues that have historically been ignored.

Many more have now signed the FRC submission, with the closing date on 13 September.

The submission is here. Those who would like to add their name can email inhousegroupUK@gmail.com and engage on social media here.
